It seems that it's the season for trying to eat healthier and teach ourselves better eating habits (a number of my friends lists are doing it!), so I wanted to share a few foods that I found that I a) actually like the taste of and b) are pretty good for you.

The key here is that the flavor has to be good because I don't care how healthy it is - if it's nasty tasting, I'm not touching it.  I won't sacrifice good taste for the fact that it's 100 calories less.  So, these things generally have the "It's not disgusting!" stamp of approval.

* Gold Peak Diet Iced Tea.  I'm a iced tea lover but, generally, I find that the bottled stuff is nasty.  Gold Peak Diet is probably the best bottled iced tea out there and it gives home brew a good run for its money.  It can run a tad sweet for my taste (irony; I don't want to think about the regular one) but overall, it's really, really good.

* Crystal Light, especially Pomegranate Lemonade which I'm drinking by the gallons right now.  I have a soft spot for Crystal Light because they provided my diabetic sister a drink alternative when we were growing up - in the 80s and 90s, finding things for diabetics was downright impossible.  With the exception of a glass of wine or beer, I dislike drinking my calories, so Crystal Light + bottle of water = awesome.

* Lean Cuisine Appetizers and steamer bags.  For the most part, I think a lot of microwavable meals just aren't worth it considering how much they cost and how much food you actually get out of them.  And I got really sick of LC's after they were one of the only things I ate a few years ago (they are relatively cheap!).  But they came out with these steamer bags that are pretty tasty (careful - if you microwave them too long, they turn kind of gross) and they have these interesting 'appetizer' ones.  Like a pita bread and spinach / artichoke dip that I had today.

And they list the Weight Watchers points on their packaging, which makes things really nice.

* Weight Watchers Dulce de Leche ice cream bar.  Okay, WW food is generally a lot of misses - like a lot of 'diet' foods, they just miss the mark in taste.  But these ice cream bars are so good, it's kind of stupid how much I like them.

Anyway, I think this is more about re-learning what my body actually needs as opposed to what I think it needs.  Lauren had a really good point about that in regards to my drinking habits.

Which is to say, I have no drinking habits.  Generally, I barely get through half a drink with a meal (water or soda) and outside of my customary drink on the way into work, I'm horrible about remembering to hydrate.  So my body gets used to it.  Which, in this case, isn't good.  I have to switch gears and actually think about the fact that I need to have a drink and that, hey, sometimes that hunger I feel isn't hunger but is, instead, me needing a drink.

It's 'little' things like that, really, that I need to focus on.  And if weight lose comes with it, great.
