indiana_j: (Sherlock Holmes // Elementary!)
I finally got to see A Game of Shadows with the family yesterday and so, first, general non-spoilery impressions.

I did quite like it and I had a lot of fun but it didn't impress me as much as the first one.  I don't know what it was, there was no big one thing that stood out, but the impact was less than the first.  Still, it was rollicking and funny and, at times, emotional.  I think maybe I felt that they could have done just a little more, gone a little further, with some of their ideas and what they wanted to show us.

OTOH, watching Sherlock Holmes cling to the back of a pony was worth the price of admission.  Thoughts:

More detailed / spoilers )

So, overall, I really enjoyed it but it needed a little bit more of what the first movie had.  I can't put a finger on it but I hope that the third movie really brings it home.

Whoops

I ... shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a closing Blockbuster store.  *shifty*  The loot was:

Gangs of New York
Star Trek
The A-Team
Copying Beethoven
Cloverfield
Pandorum
The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day
Daybreakers
28 Weeks Later

They were roughly $5.99 each and I've only ever seen 3 of those.  Movie day!

When the posse rolls into the town after the boy warns everyone - did anyone else notice the random midget cowboy scrambling to get out of the way of the horses?

Now spoilers in the comments. ;)

Also, much to my surprise, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Durand and Luke Wilson were all in the movie.  I kept going "Wait, that's ___ !" throughout the entire movie.

Overall, that's probably one of the best movies I've seen in ages.  I'm only sorry it took me so long to watch it.  And, honestly, I love a good movie with an awesome bad guy and Crowe fit that bill so very well.

I should watch 3:10 to Yuma tonight ... but it's so hard sitting still for movies these days and I don't know why.
indiana_j: (Tangled // Pascal)
My house currently smells like butterscotch and pie crust.  Oh god, the butterscotch is SO GODDAMN GOOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA.  Good butterscotch makes me melt at the knees every time.  Waiting for it to cool so I can make the pumpkin part of the pie now.  And then I need to shower and get ready for the party tonight.

In the meantime, I can't wait for Tangled to come out, it looks so cute.

Several chapters into Shutter Island, I decided - oddly - that I wanted to see the movie first as the book was sitting oddly with me.  I knew from reviews that the ending was messed up but I didn't expect that.

Shutter Island Reaction and Spoilers )

This is one of those movies where I think I need a hug afterward and I'm only partly sure I know why I want a hug.

I just watched 'No Country for Old Men' and I am just ... so ... what the hell?  The acting was amazing, the building of intensity was great and then it just ended.  So weird, so so very weird.

Also, Doqz?  Is this how your defense went?

indiana_j: (Sherlock Holmes // Watson)
Sam Elliott, sporting a mustache that almost deserves separate billing

Seriously, I almost want to see "Did You Hear About the Morgans" just for this.  Almost, but not quite as it's supposed to be utter crap.  But - Sam Elliott and his mustache!

I've been exhausted all weekend.  It's only 8 and I'm trying to mentally justify going to bed, oh, now.  Not justifiable, JenBrain, not in the least.  Don't wanna go to work tomorrow, whine whine whine, but it is only a 4 day week so...

Now, Wolverine thoughts.

Pretty shiny bits )

I totally forgot how cracky Big Trouble in Little China is and how much I actually do enjoy Kurt Russell (dear brain, Jack Russell is the dog, Kurt Russell is the actor XP).  For the crack. I also just had sweet Italian sausage and there's vegetarian Indian for dinner tonight for Amanda's birthday - which I get to pick up Lauren for. :D  And then we go back to Baltimore to finish celebrating at Howl at the Moon (I have fond memories of that place ;) ), at which point I throw myself on Lauren's mercy (and her apartment) so we can hang out tomorrow.

Watching Resident Evil: Extinction right now.  I give it...4 out of 10 monkeys.  Thank god I didn't get around to seeing this in the theater.
indiana_j: (Adorkable)
When I'm not in the mood to watch a full film, I get all my DVDs that have bloopers on them and watch all the outtakes.  Right now, I'm going to watch outtakes from: Walking Talk, Bones (Season one and two),  Dukes of Hazzard (which I'll point out I've never seen the full thing.  I got this FOR the bloopers), Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, PotC: At World's End, and Anchorman.

And if I feel like it, I might watch a few episodes from season two of Bones.

(I'm doing...okay.  I got some advice which I'll act upon on Tuesday; I had a little bit of retail therapy [I never do this but I needed a few new pieces of work clothes; the thing I love the most is the Calvin Klein suit jacket I got for $12...all nice and black with subtle pinstripes and periwinkle silk-like lining]; I have tea and about to have bloopers and there will be sushi tomorrow.)

Hah!

The Lost Room has the guy who played Casey from Sports Night.  This amuses me -- he's bulkier and kick ass. :)
indiana_j: (Angel and Danny)
So, I've seen a few episodes of Supernatural, enough to be highly, highly amused by it.  (Like, tonight, I watched Playthings and I about died at this exchange.   Sam: *about the grandmother* What're you going to do, poke with her a stick?  *paaause, Dean starts to nod*  Dude,  you're not gonna poke her with a stick!)  And I just saw Transformers last night (EEE, SO FREAKING GOOD) and tonight my brain went:

"Huh.  Wouldn't Dean's car make an AWESOME  Autobot?"

So I know many of you were a fan of Shaun of the Dead.

*grins*  When Karen and I went to see Smokin' Aces (disturbing, fucked up movie; not what we were expecting at all but very enjoyable), we caught the trailer for Hot Fuzz.   It stars our favorite two from Shaun of Dead and it's just...it looks absolutely hysterical.
