Ugh, I smell like dog now.  I went out to go to GameStop and I saw this dog wandering the streets but since it had a collar on, I assumed the owner was just walking it sans leash (it happens around here from time to time).  But when I got back, he was still there so I put my stuff up, grabbed my cellphone and headed out to see him.

Turns out he belonged to an older couple a few houses down which is a good thing because, uh, I'm not really a strange dog person.  I made sure he sat before I got over to him but he wouldn't let me see his collar and every time he jerked away, I got more nervous.  Was about to call the local animal shelter when the neighbors across the street came out and we figured out where he belonged.

And now the cats are unimpressed with me. -.-

~~

Had a great time yesterday though I need to stop getting my hopes up.  Still, fun time.

*sigh*

Abby, for those of you playing at home, is my roommate Amanda's cat.

ABBY:  *trots by*
ME:  Kitty! *picks her up*
. . .
ME:  *confused, strange look crosses my face*
ABBY:  *confused, strange look crosses her face*
ME:  *is just now realizing I'm firmly holding a wet, sopping kitty*
ABBY:  *is just now realizing she's a wet, sopping kitty*  . . . *turns into a struggling armful of wet, sopping kitty*
ME:  Oh, dear.*
ABBY:  MEW.

So, yeah, the basement flooded.

(Obviously, this was said in much more colorful terms.  MUCH MORE.  However, in hindsight I like the sound of 'oh dear'.)

Dear [personal profile] deathpixie:

Once again , thank you for the shoes.  Once again, you just saved my ass.

Love

Me, who is soaked from the kneecaps down

Thank you, US government!  I just got my $600 tax refund in and I wasn't expecting it until the end of the week if I even got it!  $100 is slotted for the hotel for DexCon and I'm going to put the rest in savings and see if I can't save up for trips to visit people and OH MY GOD, I DID A DANCE!

Riiight.

So I decided to pop out to Noodles for dinner, since I didn't feel like cooking and I was the only one home.  I left the porch light on as well as the living room light (the first so I wouldn't break my neck coming in, the second to make it seem like SOMEONE was home) and headed out.  When I came back, though...

On the side of our house, we've got a kitchen door and there's this little porch and stair set.  There on the side is where we keep the trash cans so we can just lean over the railing and toss stuff over.  When I pulled up, I noticed there were four teenagers under there (well, not all four; three were under there and one was in the bush next to the neighbors house) and when my car lights hit them, two freaked and made for the fence to the back yard while the other two apparently decided that I was a T-Rex and if they didn't move, I couldn't see them.

I blinked, thought a second and then blared my horn -- the two under the porch took off running and the two trying to climb the fence (dumbasses, the lot of them, there was a gate they could have gone through) tumbled off like startled puppies.  And then tried to nonchalantly walk off.

What. The. Hell?  It's freezing outside and the only thing I can think of was they popped under there to smoke something (because you can't see under there from the side of the road) or perform weird sex acts under my porch.  I've never even seen these kids before...
indiana_j: (Holy crap!)
With the exception of this unholy headache (again; it's got to be eyestrain), tonight's been pretty pleasant.  There was enough snow on the ground to make my inner child squee (not enough to close anything down of course); Amanda made dinner and it was of the good and then she also made brownies, which were also of the good.

This weekend shall be spent mostly comatose, I believe.  I've got The Lost Room to watch from Nextflix, plus a ton of other stuff from Christmas.

And, oh, *points it icon* say hello to Twitchy. ^.~

At home, all evening.  In the dark.

Massive storm came through and boom, no power.  I arrived to no power and a completely dead cell phone--which means said phone is either busted or so is the charger because I just charged it.  Of course, the Verizon store was closed by that time so BACK to the house with no power where I finished off a book in candle light.

And then [profile] starfishumd came home and there was much rejoicing because now I had someone to sit with me IN the dark. *grins*  The only good thing about a lack of power on Wednesday and tonight was getting to hang out and talk.

Stomach's a bit upset but I guess that comes with having half a pound of cherries for dinner.  Er, yeah.  Cherries are a comfort food and I was a bit irritated due to lack of power and dead phone.  Whoops?

Sleep now...and I'm totally sleeping in.

Two things that make the move really, really real:  setting up my computer and having food from a grocery run.  Because before those two, there's always the lingering feeling of 'guest'.

...not anymore!  Mwahaha, you guys are stuck with me.  *grins*

I'm planning on getting back to my email and 'net stuff probably tomorrow.  Right now, I'm being mugged for my sushi (granted, it's not very GOOD sushi but still...), plan on eating a very, very large bowl of fruit (*whimper* Fruit, how I've missed thee) and not doing much besides vegging.

More detailed post coming up...eventually, promise.

Oh my God

It's a little after six in the morning and I'm awake.  Actually, let me clarify--it's a little after six in the morning and I haven't slept yet.  I ran out of my sleeping pills Wednesday and, yeah, apparently the insomnia is very much alive right now. -.-  Going to get the pills refilled today.  I'm drinking water because the stomach is very unhappy with me which happens a lot when I can't sleep.

On the other hand, [profile] starfishumd's cat is currently keeping me company.  By attempting to lay on the laptop but it's something. :D

If anyone has insomnia tips, please, please feel free to let me in on them.  The insomnia is not getting any better and I'm going to have to get this looked into more.

~~

And I'm finally moved in.  Huzzah!  I'm crashing in the basement until the roommate that's leaving moves out but that's just for a week--and the basement is so nice and cool right now.  Which was the saving grace for my insomnia, really (er, need to remember: there's TV here, I can watch that the next time I can't sleep if I keep it low enough).

Took yesterday off to do the last of what needed to be done.  Momma and sister came up to help me with the trash and the remaining stuff, which helped so, so, so much.  There's a ton of stuff in my car but, eh, I'll get that after work.

It's more than a bit weird since I've lived in that apartment for around 4 years now.  But I'm going to like it here--I dig all the new roommates a lot, I love the space in the house and the area is fantastic.

I'm also bruised, beaten and sore but that's not surprising.

And now, I think I'll shower and head out.  I'll get to work early and do.  Stuff.  Yeah.

One more night in this apartment, just one more.  Because right now I've got earplugs in and music going and I can still hear the music from upstairs--it woke me up through the earplugs.  I wore them to bed last night because my bed that's normally in the last bedroom in the apartment is now up in Maryland.  And last night I had to sleep in the first bedroom, where is where you can hear the music.

I just knew I was going to wake up to blasting music so I thought ahead and put them in.  Not that they did much good when I realized the pounding noise wasn't from inside my own noggin.  One, how can people do that to themselves?  Play music so loud while they're in the apartment?  How they can concentrate on anything?

And, also, how can they do that to other people?  They know people can hear it, they have to, and yet they play it so very, very loud.  I have issues playing music loud enough that my roommates could potentially hear it, let alone neighbors.

~~

But, like I said, last full day and night in the apartment.  I'll be ferrying hopefully the last of the things tomorrow morning as I go to work and then back up home.  (Hee, home. ;) )

The move went...well, better than expected considering how it started out.

We were short several people--my dad, because work stuff happened, and Mark mainly because my cell phone died Saturday morning and I couldn't get in touch with him *sigh*--so it was just [profile] diamond_dust06 , my mom and myself moving my apartment.  (Thankfully, when we got to the house, we had help unloading from the other two roommates, so THAT helped.)  Also, when we went to get the Uhaul, we found out that they didn't have the size truck we wanted (14 foot) or really anything else besides the Uhaul van.

Baah.

4 up and back trips (essentially an hour each), something like 200 miles, all in 90 degree weather.  There were pauses in the moving processes so as not to throw up.

We finally hit Maryland for the last time, had dinner (after showering because oh my God, we were all disgusting) at the Cheesecake Factory (my thanks to them), and unloaded the last truck load.  We started home around 11:30, had to drop off the Uhaul, do a jig with getting the right car and then my mom and I went and found a hotel.

Because, you know, the bed was in Maryland at this point and we didn't feel like trying to set up the left over mattresses for comfortable sleeping for two people.  Or wake up and see a box.

2 am before we hit the sack.  ZOMG.

More boxes to the house yesterday.  And can I just say ow?  No, really, ow.  My back is a mess, I think I've pulled a muscle in my shoulder, my calves feel like they're stuck in charlie horses...I feel 90, I really, really do.

So, nearly done.  I'll be taking more up tomorrow and then grabbing anything else by Thursday.

Things I need to get and I might get those today:

-Wireless internet card for the computer (which is being taken apart tomorrow so I can shuttle it up)
-Computer desk
-Hitting up Ikea to see if there's anything else I might potentially need.

Though considering the music pouring in from upstairs, I might escape soon and do errands before I put the broom through the ceiling.

Nearly there, very excited about moving in completely with the new roommates and new house, just want it to be done with. ;)  ...I think Potomac Mills might have a massage chair.  I might go there.
