Okay, guys, my T.V. watching lately has bottomed out - I didn't even watch Bones this season!  So, I'm planning on catching up via Hulu and Netflix - but what else should I be watching?

What TV show or mini-series is good enough to add to the Netflix list?

If you haven't seen The Unusuals or Justified yet, rectify that. The former is available on streaming, the latter is worth waiting for the DVDs.

And speaking of Timothy Olyphant in a hat... Deadwood.

The original British version of State of Play is brilliant as a mini. Same for Life on Mars, another awesome concept destroyed by us Yanks, which runs for two seasons and then is sequeled by Ashes to Ashes, which I have not seen and cannot speak toward.

It's not comfy, but Spooks/MI-5 is brilliant in its ruthlessness (although Ruth herself is lovely when she's around) and available on streaming. You'll know after the first episode if you'll love it or hate it. There are nine seasons, but they're not US-length seasons.

OMG I watched like the first 30 minutes of LOM America, and I had to turn it off. Aside from one really great reveal moment with the twin towers, it was almost word-for-word but with Plucky!Busty!Annie and Extra!attractive people who didn't!Seem!to!Act.

I still can't believe I haven't seen much of Deadwood. I'm rectifying that as soon as I can. I've got Life on Mars and that's next on my to watch list, right after the rest of Sherlock.

Thanks for the others! I've heard very good things about Spooks/MI-5 but I'd totally forgotten that.

OMG SANCTUARY! 1st season is a bit of a... I dunno, it's just kind of lackluster, but damn - towards the end of the 1st and through the 2nd season it's pretty great. VAMPIRE TESLA!!

Otherwise... Well I would recommend Robin Hood, but quite honestly I started watching it while cleaning the kitchen and was so horribly distracted by HORSES OMG that I had to turn it of and haven't gone back. But given my initial viscerally positive reaction....

I would rec Doctor Who, but you've probably been deluged... Life on Mars - you must watch. Though don't do it when depressed, because I made that mistake... Actually I'm not sure WHEN would be good to watch it - it's a very emotionally confusing show (ie, your emotions get confused, not the show is confusing in what it is trying to get across - it gets everything across so well it just flips your little heartstrings out).

Also, I just had coffee for the first time in days. *BZZZZZZ*

Well, I was kind of sold on the idea of Sanctuary with the whole Tesla part. ;)

I really tried to get into Robin Hood but I really couldn't. It just never really connected with me. And you're right about DW!

We've been mainlining Castle here at Chez Dex - it's a little samey in terms of "murder of the week", but there's a lot of fun stuff going on and Nathan Fillion is adorable. Molly Quinn pwns everyone, however.

Other suggestions... Sons of Anarchy is pretty gritty and non-fluffy, but it's great solid drama and amazing performances. Black Books is a nostalgia pick for me and there's always Blackadder to round out the Brit comedy. I'm personally wanting to catch up on Eureka, especially since Wil Weaton and Felicia Day turn up in it.

I really do like Castle. My sister showed me ... the first season, I think. It's very cute. And I wish Quinn was more prolific because she would have been my new Angel PB. ;)

SoA is now on the list! I've been hearing very good things about it. I never could get into Eureka despite the premise. Maybe I should watch a few more episodes (the pilot kind of bored me).

You should check out Warehouse 13 as it's set in the same universe as Eureka.

In production:

Fringe (quirky scifi with procedural tendencies, three seasons - only two on DVD currently.)

Community (snarky sitcom, two seasons - only one on DVD currently.)

The Vampire Diaries (vampires, better than the title would suggest, I swear, two seasons - only one on DVD currently.)

Doctor Who (lots of seasons, seven 'new', mostly available on Netflix Instant.)

True Blood (more vampires and admittedly this is subjective to one's tolerance for cheese and cheesecake, but Eric is really very pretty. Four Seasons, three on DVD, one airing.)

Cancelled oldies but goodies:

The Brian Fuller Oeuvre - if you've seen parts of any of them, you've got a good idea of what you're in for: Wonderfalls (one season,) Dead Like Me (two seasons and a movie - on Netflix Instant but the movie is Less Good,) Pushing Daisies (two seasons - possibly still on Netflix Instant.)

Better Off Ted (snarky as all hell workplace comedy with an unstated-but-obviously evil corporation and cracked scientists, two seasons - Netflix Streaming.)

The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Terminator! Lots of guns and explosions, two seasons on DVD.)

The United States of Tara (Toni Colette with multiple personalities. 2 or 3 seasons, (I forget) freshly cancelled by Showtime.)

Ooh, I keep forgetting about Community! I never got into True Blood but that might have been my distaste for Sookie in general (both the novel and the T.V. show just leave me wanting to smack her. The boys are pretty, though).

Lots of things to add to Netflix, thanks!

I spend a lot of time rolling my eyes at Sookie, I'm not gonna lie, but there are some really interesting bits here and there (mostly with Eric and/or Russell in s.3) that are worth suffering through her more obnoxious Mary Sue moments for.

Of note (seeing as you mentioned Angel elsewhere,) the current Doctor's companion is an early 20s redhead with a ton of attitude, if you're looking for a new face. :)

Karen Gillan - who would make an excellent Angel.

I might give it another shot but I really hate when I hate the main character in a show. I put up with How I Met Your Mother despite that because of how much I love everyone else.

*grins* Sadly, she'd been one of my first thoughts but she's Callie's PB. I eventually went with Rachel Hurd-Wood, who is quite good for the role of Angel.

Warehouse 13 and Falling skies are both good.

Not sure, it's a new series directed by Steven Spielberg, so it might be a little too new perhaps? But if it isn't, definitely take a look.

For mini series I would highly recommend Pillars of the Earth. As for TV shows, the Tudors :) All 4 seasons are on instant stream! If Camelot hadn't been canceled I would suggest that since the 1st season was pretty good. And of course I would always suggest Battlestar Galactica, the newer series :)

I have heard good things about Pillars of the Earth. And one of these days I'll really crack open Battlestar Galactica - it's a meaty series, though, and I might as just well borrow the first season from you instead of trying to watch it bit by bit through Netflix.

You can borrow the whole series since I've got all the DVDs! Even the movies :)
