Things that have made me happy, since I've been really sort of out of it lately due to stress, lack of sleep and more stress:

1.  I finished reading The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett the other day; it's one of those books that I randomly found in a bookstore and thought the premise looked interesting but okay - I hadn't purchased any books so my book budget was untouched and I bought it on a whim.  I love this book so much I can't even really begin to talk about it.  I might try, later, but this book was an utter delight.

2.  I came home to four packages today.  Three were books from Paperbackswap and the other was a purchase; I got:

     a.  Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion in the hopes that using this will mean I don't have to reapply my eyeshadow a million times a day.
     b.  And Only to Deceive by Tasha Alexander
     c.  The Light Ages by Ian R. MacLeod
     d.  Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold (because Lauren was right and I adored The Curse of Chalion)

3.  I spent $39 at the grocery store for my weekly run instead of the $75 that I thought and budgeted for.

4.  I had the best chicken salad sandwich today for lunch.  And a slice of cheesecake.  And I didn't purchase either one of those, they came from home.

5.  And my friends and family who have put up with me thus far.

I couldn't believe how much better it was than her Knife series. It was like it was written by a different author! At only one point did I go "Where's the fighting? There's no fighting!" but then she gave it to me so it was very well paced.

I was so happy when I found out there was a sequel.

There are Vorkosigan books I don't like as much as Curse of Chalion. I don't know what happened with Sharing Knife but damn, it really wasn't up to her standard.

The Vorkosigan ones are the actual sci-fi stories, right? I'm not such a huge fan of reading that kind of thing but I love this series. And, yeah, I'd read that series first and, man, if it hadn't been for Lauren I wouldn't have touched Chalion with a ten foot pole afterwards.

They are--and if you ever do get a yen for some sci-fi I really recommend them.

And go, Lauren. :) Man, now I want to go dig out my copy again.
