To my grandfathers, who served in World War II and Vietnam (one came home with a British bride and stories he could rarely bring himself to tell).
To my uncles, some of them having served 20+ years across all sorts of branches.
To my dad, who ended up on a ship at age 17 / 18 sort of kind of by accident and saw more of the world in four years than he'd seen in 17. And for those ridiculous stories that always make me wonder why no one killed you (impersonating John Wayne while starting a march is only one of the infractions you got written up for).
To my mom, who was one of the few women mechanics (one of two in her class) at the time working on the jets in the Air Force. The picture I have of you, sitting in the cockpit of a jet, and smiling is something I treasure. (And thank you for winding up in the Navy, where you met dad and allowed him to marry you. ;) )
To my cousin, who married his wife on board the carrier that they were being deployed on.
To the Marines, those that became my extra family (though I thank you less for being thrown into a bush of snow, Jon)
To my friends, who have served in these rocky times.
And to those I don't know, who have stories I haven't heard yet.
Thank you.
