*mwa! to [profile] _bounce_*  *grins*  the Torchwood CDs just arrived, thank you!  And eeeee, you drew me Jack!  *loves*  And the hand! *loves more*

Eeeeee! *runs around in circles*  Talk about happy, getting a neat package at work. :D

~~

EEEE.

~~

For those people out there who know health better, what's a good, safe goal for losing weight, say, in 4 months?  I want to drop some weight before my birthday but I don't want to kill myself, either.  Help?

(I need a health buddy.  Not even someone who's here, just someone that can poke me once a week and get me motivated.  I'd even give you a big stick.)

~~

I love my insurance company.  I got a crack in my windshield this morning, about the length of a dollar.  My insurance does cover window repair and they've got a company that works with them that will go out to you instead of you taking the car to them.  If it's just a repair job, it's free.  If they have to replace it, it's only $250.

Sweet.

~~

My doctor gave me the number to a therapist.  I've been thinking about going back but she thinks the insomnia is tied into the anxiety/slight depression I get, which might (might) be tied to a serotonin problem.  Both my mom and my grandmom (just found out about that one) had issues with it, so that's a lead they're following.

The hope is to have therapy ease the anxiety, which in turn will ease the insomnia.  I've got sleeping pills again for the next three months when things get bad.  And if therapy doesn't work, we'll see about medication.

Funny.  Three years ago if someone had mentioned medication for something like this to me and I would have freaked out.  I'd rather not go that route, I prefer Option A.  But if I need it, I need it.  (Personally, if I have to, I'm hoping for the sad rock medication because I like the "mascot".  ...what?)

The only problem with the therapist is that they've got a 6 to 8 week waiting list before I can get seen. o.O If that turns out to be true, I'll have to get someone closer to work sooner than that.  I mean, it's an indication that they're good but still.

~~

Am very very pleased with myself.  I cooked dinner--homemade pasta sauce, no less--Monday night and thanks to the leftovers, made a ton of pasta salad last night.  Part of my plan is to cook a lot more, meaning less eating out and better for me foods.

I need a place to get recipes that are tasty but healthy.

~~

...eh, this isn't TMI.  I found out today that I'm still able to get the cervical cancer shots.  I'm starting the treatment in the next week or so.  The last shot will be well after my 26th birthday, so I'll probably have to pay for it myself.

But.  What's $150 compared to cancer?  Hell, I've paid that amount for my cat to get treatment, why not myself?

~~

I've got a ton of books/video tapes (yes, tapes) I need to donate/get rid of.  I might invite some of the local folks (hi Ben) to come and poke through the books.  I've already donated a bin of books to the Stafford library (once upon a time, my home away from home) and I'll keep doing that unless I can find another home for them.

*wry* And I've got a $60 dollar trade value at one of the local book shops already.

~~

I might stay and have a beer ($1 beer night at one of the local places, whoo) with some coworkers today.  Start this whole being social thing.  On the other hand, I was social all of last week and I might beg off to go clean house.

Oh my God, I'm getting old!

Seriously, though, lots more attempts at getting out of the house at least once a week now.  Friday nights might wind up being my movie nights because traffic around here sucks.

~~

La la la, back to work.

With exercise and proper diet, you can reasonably lose about 2lbs a week. So four months, figure about 30lbs.

Basic formula: cut 500cal/daily from your recommended intake. Switch 300cal/daily carbs and starches to protein. Exercise 10-12 minutes daily, and 30-40 minutes three times a week.

That sounds pretty doable. (Though if I don't lose 30 lbs by May I'm not going to cry. I'm not _fat_, I just could stand to drop some weight. And, wow, how far have I come to be able to say that? :D)

Now it's a matter of sticking to it. Though cooking will probably help a _lot_ in that regard. Because I always have leftovers and no excuse to go to the food court.

It's pretty easy once you get into the groove. I say this after falling spectacularly out of the groove recently.

And that's the thing, it's hard to get going and easy to fall off the band wagon.

But I read somewhere about treating yourself. So I have one day a week where I can eat out and if I stick to my plans, I'll go and buy something nice for myself.

Now to see about switching gyms. There's one in the mall _right_ next door to where I work now.

One of the things I miss about TKD is that I had someone(s) to remind me to keep going to class. And someone to check in with if I didn't.

(Greatest discovery of all time: Rice cakes that are _tasty_.)

Heh, I just read in a NYT article that the series came out to $400. Where are you getting it for less? And what's this about being 26?

It's $150 per shot if your insurance company doesn't cover it. And the age that most insurances will cover is 9 to 26.

So the first two shots for me will be free but after I hit 26, I have to pay for the last one.

Here's where I cross my fingers and hope the VA will cover it? I hate being "old." Whoever came up with that arbitrary 9-26 can...

Okay, you get the drift. (;

Thanks for the info.

We love Wiki. According to the article, "Gardasil is targeted at girls and women of age 9 to 26 because the vaccine only works if given before infection occurs; therefore, public health workers are targeting girls before they begin having sex."

Just check with the VA before you start getting the shots since it's pretty pricey. Worth it in the end, though.

First shot, then the second one is two months later and then the third is 6 months after that.

Better than being sick, though.

Exactly. Way better than getting the strands it protects against.

One step in the right direction, all in.

They got there that quickly? I thought that anything sent as a letter would take longer than that. I hope you enjoy them, even if the sound is a little out of synch at times.

Speaking from as a person who's life revolves around diet and keeping tabs on carbs, etc. just eat less junk food. Instead of having chips, have carrots, use vegetable oil instead of heavier oils, boil veggies, etc. You should seriously get a DDR pad and game, cause you can sweat a LOT of weight off from that lol. Drink more water, less caffeine, do some cardio which will help to put more muscle on and take off the extra weight. And try the 6 small meals a day instead of just the big meals. You'd be surprised how much energy you get once you start eating healthy. Oh, and stop by walmart, they have exercise DVDs for like $10 for different things like Tae Bo, kick boxing, etc. Those are good too. It's all about self control, staying to the diet and feeling better about yourself.

PS - I got you a little goodie at the con, so when you come down for the circus on the 3rd, I shall give it to you!

Yeah, the DDR pad is becoming more and more interesting. I might have to pick one up next paycheck.

And now, yet another Doctor Who Icon!

Delayed reaction for the win!

With the cervical cancer shot, my insurance company said that they pay for the series as long as you _start_ the shots when you're 26 and will continue to pay for the series until you finish. So you should check on that, maybe they'll still cover it.

And if you're still looking for someone to diet/excercise motivate with, let me know. Just started up at the gym last month, I go four times a week and the more I force myself to check in with people about it, the more chance I have of going as often as I'd like.
