Om nom nom
Jul. 23rd, 2011 10:32 pm So Marissa and I did our dinner tonight (we just got home - 2 1/2 hours and we dropped about $230 on dinner, of which we had $115 covered thanks to our change jar. How awesome is that?) and the food was to die for. The only issues were that I felt our waitress was a bit ... short with us (she was good but didn't really treat us as well as some of the other tables and she got a bit strange at the end) and at the end, it was kind of like karaoke night at the piano bar. All these older people singing in really deep baritones! And right in our ears!
But the hotel itself was gorgeous and the food to die for. I also discovered that I really liked a wine called Dr. Loosen. Not only is the name kind of hysterical but it was really good. (Two glasses of that and a Gimlet makes for a very good dinner.)
What I ended up ordering was:
Fluke - Local Fluke Crudo F, Pickled Ramps, Sesame Tuile. This was quite good and the pickled ramp was very tasty - surprising since I normally really don't like pickled anything, really. Marissa ended up eating the sesame tuile as I'm not big into hard crackers.
Cheeks - Braised Kurobuta Pork Cheeks, Brown Sugar Bacon, Charred Frisée, Roasted Cipollini. Hands down this was the BEST thing of the evening. The braised pork cheeks were so tender that if you looked at them funny, they fell apart. Also, giant chunk of brown sugar bacon = love.
Duck - Poached Duck Breast Roulade, Creamed Corn, Morel Mushroom Sauce. While this was very good, it was a bit too salty for me. But the corn (which wasn't really all that creamy) was fantastic and I could have used a lot more of the mushrooms. OM NOM NOM.
Dessert was four little takes off of cherry. Cherry juice (a bit bitter for me), cherry shortbread (OH MY GOD), cherry jell-o (decent) and a wee baby cherry tartlet (mmm).
I think the only thing I would have done differently would have been to get the Black Bass instead of the duck, though the duck was still very good.
Overall, this place was great and I'd go again. Uh. Maybe if the parents are paying since I don't have $115 in change floating around the house anymore. :D
