Let's face it - the Resident Evil movies will never win an Oscar for actor / actress / plot / anything remotely of that caliber. But I love them (and anything else to do with the RE franchise, with the exception of the RE5 game) because they're fun.
So, with that in mind, Resident Evil: Retribution...(Major spoilers below)
Needed more zombies. I'm all about trying to insert new things into a series but this is a zombie movie and I felt seriously shorted on zombies. We got multiple firefights (ugh, seriously, the Las Plagas strain was seriously underused and ended up being one of the worst scenes in the movie), which, while cool, seemed to have more scenes than the zombies did.
They really did have a cool premise with the whole 'good clone / bad clone' thing but they did not use it to its potential. It was awesome that we got Rain and Carlos back but, seriously, they were so underused that it was almost not worth it. These days it feels like movies are too long but for once, I think they could have stood to have an extra 30 minutes in there.
Also, fuck you for killing Luther and Good Carlos off. Look, again, zombie movie, so I get that the death toll is going to be high but it'd be nice if one of Alice's love interests actually managed to survive a movie outside Carlos making it from RE2 to RE3.
Overall, I think this hits the lowest for me in the franchise - I even liked the 3rd one better and they killed off everyone but Alice in that one! It was still fun, though, and I did enjoy it but it's just not as good as the others.
Things I liked:
* Barry! Barry Burton was from game one and Durand played him really well.
* Ada Lang, another game favorite, was pretty cool except at the end. I would have liked to see more Kick Ass Ada, thanks.
* Leon! Man, they got his look down-pat and he was pretty much what I'd think of of I think of Leon Kennedy come to life.
* Needs Chris and Claire Redfield but, hopefully, we'll get them next movie? I think the actors had other commitments but it actually did kind of play into the RE theme - the most recent RE game was the first, I believe, to have both Chris and Leon in it.
* The scenes we got with zombies were some of the best in the movie.
* Wesker's not dead and as charmingly evil as always.

Aww! 'Luther', 'Alice', 'Barry' and 'Leon' mugging for the camera
