T.V. Shows

I've been watching a surprising (for me) amount of TV lately - hell, last year, I didn't even watch Bones.  So, what I'm watching and what I think of it so far and, btw, spoilers behind the cuts:

Person of Interest - currently enjoying the hell out of it, especially with the last episode.

I hate to say it but I was getting kind of bored with some of the shows; it all felt very formulaic.  Girl and guy become a team of some sort, there's romantic tension that's spread out over 10 seasons, things happen.  That's very generic and I still love Bones and I totally know that there are other shows out there but I was just feeling a bit burnt out.

So along comes Person of Interest.  The two main characters are guys but the one female is really, really kickass (it's not a huge cast so far - Finch and Reese are the two mains, Carter is the police detective and Fusco is the cop in Reese's pocket) and, I don't know.  There's a formula there for sure but the interaction between Finch and Reese is interesting and I find Finch fascinating.  There are some weak parts but it's gaining strength.

I just watched the latest episode and spent the last 10 minutes on the couch screaming "Holy shit!  Holy shit!"  They managed to not only build up the big bad for the season but do it in a way that I was completely blind sided.

From the opening, spoken by Finch:

You are being watched. The government has a secret system--a machine that spies on you every hour of every day. I know because...I built it. I designed the machine to detect acts of terror but it sees everything...violent crimes involving ordinary people; people like you, crimes the government considered irrelevant. They wouldn't act so I decided I would, but I needed a partner--someone with the skills to intervene. Hunted by the authorities, we work in secret. You will never find us. But whether victim or perpetrator, if your number's up, we'll find you.

Body of Proof, something that's been running for 2 seasons but I only have caught the last two episodes.  No spoilers for this one but it's pretty adorable and I found myself caring for the characters pretty quickly.  Also, Cliff Curtis (yes, he was Fire Lord Ozai, just shut it) just joined the show and I forgot how cute he is.

Once Upon a Time

This show is really going to be my top pick for this season.  It's inventive, the characters are kick ass and, hey, fairy tale stories with a modern twist!  And it has a kid actor in it who I don't want to strangle.  In fact, he's ten kinds of adorable, even.  Emma Swan is great to watch - hell, the only one who has been kind of off was the guy playing Princess Thomas, he was much less stiff in his 'human' role.  There are some bumpy spots in the writing but in the end, it makes up for it by being original and having great characters.

Also, $10 says that Sheriff Graham (bad sheriff, no cookie, for sleeping with the Mayor / Evil Queen!) is that wolf - it's totally a nod to Fables.  And Robert Carlyle as Mr. Gold / Rumpelstiltskin is fantastic.

Grimm

Okay, I have to say that it's slowly - god, slowly - growing on me.  I still wish the series was either about Aunt Mary or Eddie.  I'm going to give it another episode or two and if it hasn't hooked me, I'm going to drop it.

Bones

So, after missing most of last season, I'm finally tuning back in.  And I have to say that my biggest problem with Bones is really no one's fault.  They've been building up the relationship of Booth and Bones for so long but because of Emily Deschanel's pregnancy, they advanced the story so that at the start of this season they've been together for, what, six months?  It just feels like we missed out on so much and that really bums me out.  Again, it's nothing that they'e done wrong because, hello, baby for reals but I do find myself wishing this had happened a season ago so that we could have watched them grow into their relationship.

Everything else seems pretty much standard - good show, great characters.  And I don't seem to hate Angela yet!

I have Hell on Wheelsthe rest of The Walking DeadSherlock and Life on Mars to watch, too, so eventually my brain is just going to turn into a giant TV.  I never watch this much stuff but I can't pretend I'm not enjoying it!
