A Nameless Witch: A tale of vengeance, true love, and cannibalism by A. Lee Martinez
A little over 300 pages long, this was a really easy read. That's not a knock on the book, far from it. Part of the easy and fast read was due to the fact that the book was really good. It's funny without being either overly so or funny for funny's sake, there's good character development (which is always something I look for) and the plot is unique.
It's high fantasy but more along the lines of Mercedes Lackey's Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms - it takes story lines commonly found in fairytales and twists it. Not enough that it's not recognizable but enough that it's unique.
It made for incredibly enjoyable metro and lunch reading and now I'll make sure to pick up Martinez' other books. If they're all this much fun, I'll soon have another favorite author. I appreciate any book that could make me laugh out loud in a metro car full of people.
*Yes, there's obviously a theme to all of this. ;) I am, after all, a monkey of good reading stature and a monkey reviewer should act as such.
