Well, the weekend got off to a hell of a start when that storm came roaring through on Friday night. And I do mean roaring. One moment we were watching TV when an alert popped up and then, not even 10 minutes later, we lost power as apparently the entire force of Mother Nature's wrath slammed right down upon us.
I wish I was kidding. I've never really liked thunder storms but I've gotten over most of my "aaaahhh, run and hide!" reaction - but I was freaked out on Friday. Completely convinced that we were about to have a tornado touch down (there was some rotation spotted but nothing touched down). Thankfully, it was a brutal but fast storm.
At one point, we ran out to the front porch because my parents thought BC (Black Cat) was out in the yard, motionless, but it turned out to be a potted plant that got sucked off the porch. As we're kind of peering around, I turned and spotted something else, though.
"Uh, hey, is that your tree?" A good chunk of the tree in the front yard had splintered off thanks to the wind (in the morning, we would see that it and the lovely willow had giant branches split off). -.-
At one point, once the wind had died down, we could hear one of the cats crying pitifully from the back porch. Turned out to be one sopping wet mess of a cat, Triangle, looking very sad. Mom brought him into the house to dry him off and cuddle with him for a little bit (seriously, this was Triangle's ultimate dream) before she gently put him back outside. Poor buddy.
Overall, though, the two trees were the only damage we sustained. We lost power for about 10 hours but it came back up Saturday morning around 7:30, so we were really luckier than most. I was pretty convinced that being out in the country would mean we'd lose power for longer than the folks in the DC area but I'm thankful it came back up so fast.
Still, one hell of a night.

Also, thankfully, everywhere we had plans to go to on Saturday also had power.
Mom and I had hair and eyebrow appointments at 11:30 and they were good to go. Frank did an awesome job, as always, on my summer cut and I'm so grateful to have gotten it cut up to my shoulders and then he thinned it out on top - this is not the weather that I like to have long hair in:
( Say cheese! Picture behind cut. )
It mostly still looks like this after I've had to do it on my own. ;)
I had a Living Social deal for Vintage 51 and since it was expiring by the 10th, I convinced the parents to go out for dinner. They didn't realize but I had plans to pick up the tab. Overall, the food was pretty good - I don't know if it's a place to go out of our way for, since it was an hour+ drive, but if we're up in that part of the woods, yeah, I'd go back.
Sunday was pretty quiet. I cooked Chicken Tikka Masala in the slow cooker and it turned out AMAZING - it's a weight watchers recipe that doesn't taste like it. Mom made a pastry thing with cherries and peaches, which was also amazing. And since I started dinner in the slow cooker at 11 am that morning, I puttered about the house the rest of the day because slow cookers are the BEST THINGS EVER.

Sadly, work has power (what?) and we're here on time, so I should now actually concentrate on work. I so am not feeling it today. I've been flooring it at work these past few weeks and I'm starting to feel it again - all I want to do is sleep right now. But, since I can't, I might as well be productive
Or something.
