Just a little something to bolster myself up.
Title: Distraction
Fandom: Harry Potter (Marauders)
Characters: Remus Lupin
Word Count: 313
Rating: G
Summary: Remus goes outside to get a little studying done but finds that even away from the other three, distractions abound.
Author's Notes: Nonbetaed and I don't own any of these characters, sadly enough.
"Oi, knock that off!"
A sound of a brief scuffle filled the afternoon air and some birds took flight, scolding as they went.
"You realize," Remus sighed, tugging his quill away, "that I am out here because if I am in there, I won't ever study?"
The horse whinnied slightly and promptly went back to chewing on Remus' quill, despite his best effort to continue writing. He eyed his efforts and, thanks to the horse, a good chunk of it looked like it had been spewed onto the paper, not written.
He squinted slightly. Maybe he'd invented another language?
"Look now, you're as bad as Padfoot." Except that he doubted Sirius would go so far as to chew on it. He paused and nearly lost his prize as the horse took advantage of his distraction and tugged. Well, maybe Sirius would go that far, he had seen him after he’d skipped a meal once or twice.
He eyed the horse and the horse eyed him. Maybe Padfoot had decided to go equine? That would be like him, actually, change forms just to bother him. After all, he'd been quite put out when Remus had stomped off to study outside, away from the mischief of the Marauders.
There was a test tomorrow after all and he'd lost valuable study time as it was with the full moon having just finished.
There was a sudden chomp and Remus looked up, startled, to see half of his quill missing. The other half was slowly disappearing into the creatures’ mouth. And, oh, did it look smug. Glaring at the horse, he slammed his books closed. "I hope you get sick from the ink," he muttered, standing up and wishing he had hexed it.
At least he knew how to work around the rest of the Marauders when they were in a mood. He'd never really liked horses.
Smelly beasts.
