Title: Boredom and Insanity
Fandom: Firefly
Characters: Kaylee and Wash
Prompt: 096 - Writer's Choice: Boredom
Word Count: 642
Rating: PG
Author's Notes: Kaylee's bored. The problem is so is Wash. (And I think anyone who has seen other Alan Tudyk movies will get this reference. ;) )

Kaylee stretched as she walked around the cargo bay, working out the kinks that always came with fixing something in the engine room. Though even that had been minor tinkering, since today had been one of the quietest she'd seen in some time. Which was good considering that Mal, Zoe and Jayne were out on a job. She preferred that no one came back busted up even if Jayne loved to tell her tales.

Tales she'd take, bloodshed she could leave.

But even the crew left to watch Serenity were quiet. River was sleeping and Simon was cleaning up the medical supplies since they had actually gotten a new shipment in for him. Book was...off being Book, Kaylee supposed, not really knowing what the older man did in the waiting time.

And who knew where Wash was?

Standing in the middle of the floor she looked with some longing at the hoop above her head. It would be nice to have a little bit of excitement around here.

Shrugging, she made to leave only to be stopped by an ungodly yell.

"YAAAR!"

Kaylee must have jumped a good foot in the air as she spun around, clutching her chest as she made panicked noises. Her eyes went up to the top of the walk way and her jaw dropped.

"...Wash?"

Wash stared down at her smugly, balanced very cautiously on top of the railing. Putting one hand on his hip, he struck a pose and Kaylee had to wonder exactly where he had gotten most of that...that...pirate outfit. Except those baggy pants looked like...oh God, Jayne's. That fluffy shirt had to have come from off the ship and where in the 'verse had he gotten than hat and eye patch?

"Avast ye matey, I smell treasure in the air and excitement to be found!" Wash grinned down at her. "So what say ye, care ta board me pirate ship?"

Now, if that didn't sound dirty, she didn't know what did. "What on earth are you up to?" she demanded, trying not to laugh, as she put her hands on her hips to glare up at him. "Get down 'fore you kill yourself and I have ta explain to Zoe what you were doing!"

In response he just grinned and she suddenly realized that he was holding onto a rope. Following the length of it, she found that it was tied to the top of the rafters and why on earth would anyone tie...oh God.

"Resistance is futile! Prepare ta join me crew!"

"Wash don't you dare!" Kaylee yelped.

Cackling like a mad man, he gripped the rope tightly and then as she covered her eyes, because if she didn't see this it wasn’t actually happening, pushed himself off the railing. Whooping and hollering the entire time. Eyes screwed shut, Kaylee waited to hear the sound of a Wash-shaped body hitting the floor.

But all she heard was another "YAAR!" and a rush of wind as an arm wrapped around her waist tightly at a very fast rate of speed. Kaylee couldn't help but look as she screamed, feet suddenly leaving the floor, as Wash's aimed proved oddly accurate. Throwing her own arms around his neck, she screeched again as they were shot up towards the ceiling.

As they came back down in a fast arc, she couldn't help but giggle madly into his shoulder, especially upon seeing a dinosaur tapped there with a little sign reading "Polly". Tucking her feet up under her to make sure they didn't smack into the ground, they nearly made the railing he'd jumped off of but with both of their weights they missed it by a few inches.

Content to just swing back and forth, both now in hysterics, Wash grinned at her.

"Not bored anymore, are you?"

"...let's do that again!"

“That’s the spirit! YAAR!”
